When the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 3 needed upgrades to their Queens housing development, it was Gilston Electric they called. The union’s Electchester community of 2,500 apartments is only one of Gilston’s residential renovation projects where wiring and lighting upgrades must be performed in inhabited homes.

Gilston was New York’s contractor of choice when Hurricane Sandy ravaged 40 public housing buildings and 23 schools, leaving tens of thousands without power or safety systems. The administration called on Gilston again when COVID-19 required ventilation upgrades to city schools, medical exam trailers in hard-hit neighborhoods and triage units at city medical centers.

Gilston is a preferred and pre-approved contractor for the New York City School Construction Authority. Gilston provides regular renovations and installations for the public school system, as well as round-the-clock emergency repairs and upgrades. After Hurricane Sandy devastated 23 schools throughout Far Rockaway, Gilston restored their electrical systems in record time and when COVID-19 struck in 2020, Gilston repaired and upgraded school ventilation systems across the five boroughs. In addition to its work on the public school system, GIlston also provides electrical systems for the city’s leading colleges and universities.
