About the project

Gilston Electric is collaborating with the New York City Housing Authority to restore impacted developments after Hurricane Sandy destroyed countless homes and neighborhoods. The larger $172.2 million contract improves infrastructure resiliency through emergency upgrades to electrical systems for over 18 buildings across a three-block footprint. Gilston’s response includes renovations with storm-tight emergency generators, new CT cabinets and wiring, and automatic transfer switches to avoid outages.

The Gilston team is also rehabilitating the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems by installing annexes above flood levels for nine buildings. Gilston’s expedited delivery, safe installation, and quality assurance are helping the New York City Housing Authority set the national standard for safer homes.

GENERATING HOPE FOR HOMES RAVAGED BY DISASTER

  • New electrical distribution systems.
  • New CT services.

  • New utility walls and awnings above building entries to carry new electrical distribution.
  • Exterior lighting replacement throughout the site.

New MEP annexes above defined flood elevations at nine buildings with full backup power generators and automatic transfer switches.
