About the project

In a major upgrade to the 85-year old crossing, Gilston Electric furnished and installed lighting along nearly 5,000 feet of roadway for the George Washington Bridge. The project called for replacing obsolete electrical features while maintaining the traffic flow and for implementing an Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) that uses automated incident detection information to decrease response and removal times. More than 30 state- of-the-art electronic variable-message signs now provide real-time information to drivers on the roads leading to the bridge.

From upgraded lighting on the iconic necklace of the cables to effective power distribution across the entire bridge, Gilston lit the way for more than 103 million drivers each year on the world’s busiest bridge.
